Climate Change-The Global Emergency

Almost every year breaks some horrible record ,from the harshest heat waves to the most rapid glacier melt .Its endless and relentless .This is caused by the rapid climate change due to the excessive amount of release of greenhouse gases for the past decade .The earth's temperature is now rising faster than at any other times

Since the industrial revolution ,humans have released over 1.5 trillions tons of carbon dioxide or CO2 into the earth's atmosphere , not just CO2 we are also pumping out growing volumes of other greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere .

.

In 2019 the world was emitting 50 % more CO2 than in the year 2000 . Worldwide C02 emissions are still rising .

CAUSES

The causes of these massive CO2 emissions are the  following :-

1.POPULATION SIZE :- We already know that more people meaning higher CO2 emission its a very simple equation . According to data the global population is growing and according to UN it will level off at about 11 billion in 2100 ,which is 40 % more than today

  •    The only way to slow down this growth is investment in healthcare ,and access to education in  developing countries .

2. ECONOMIC GROWTH :- The richer and more developed we are the more emissions our lifestyle produces .a programmer in Us has a higher CO2 footprint than 50 farmers in Uganda .As a consequence of economic growth CO2 emission will rise .

So ,we can see that human activities are at fault .

  • We have been burning more and more  fossil fuels  like coal which release CO2 ,to power our homes, factories ,transport vehicles etc .
  • The  relentless cutting down of forest  have done no good as trees helps to regulate the climate by absorbing co2 from the atmsphere .
  • The Increased livestock farming .Cows and sheep produce large amounts of methane when they digest their food
  •  The usage of fertilizers . fertilizers containing nitrogen  produce nitrous oxide emissions
  •  and the fluoronated gases  are emitted from equipment and products that use these gases. Such emissions have a very strong warming effect, up to 23 000 times greater than CO2

EFFECTS

The effects of these rising CO2 emissions and the greenhouse gases on the climate has resulted in some bizzarre consequences .Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Almost every year breaks some horrible record we have had more heat waves ,the most glacial melting and the lowest amount of ice ever recorded at the north pole .

So, how can CO2 and the other green houses gases emission be reduced .

The following two factors describe how we can do to stop the rising c02 emissions :-

ENERGY INTENSITY :- Energy intensity describes how efficiently we use energy .Making our technology more efficient and coming up with more efficient ways to organise our societies is one of the most important ways to reduce the modern world CO2 dependency .

CO2 EMISSION PER ENERGY UNIT PRODUCED OR OUR GLOBAL FOOTPRINT :-Humanity global carbon footprint is the CO2 release per energy unit generated ,for example coal plants release much more CO2 than solar power per unit energy the more fossil fuels we burned the higher our C02 output .So , we need to use lower carbon alternatives .We can use more renewable energy sources We should phase out fossil fuel vehicles .

and  what can WE do to stop the climate change .

The 5 things we can do to stop the climate change are as follows .

  • Taking public transportation or riding our  bike to home is great way to cut out the CO2 emmision .
  •  Making  sure to turn off lights and unplug devices that you are not using anymore when you are done with them.Becoming more energy efficient is a great way to prevent pollution .
  • Recycling  is a  cost-effective and eco-friendly process that eliminates waste and doesn’t emit greenhouse gasses into the environment
  • To educate others about the climate change . We  can help protect the planet by educating others about the dangers of climate change and how to act against it.
  • Encouraging the use of renewable energy .

At last it is very important to know that  Climate change is the environmental challenge of this generation, and it is imperative that we act before it’s too late.”- John Delaney
